Our mission
Our goal is to provide an unmatched quality of training enabling people to survive and thrive on their own off the grid, from full-time off-grid living to surviving grid down scenarios; if it relates in any way to the unavailability of services, it has a place in our curriculum!
Off-Grid School courses revolve around key topics: survival, bushcraft, shooting and marksmanship, and emergency planning.
Classes are hands-on and in-person, with a maximum class size of 5 learners. There will be no virtual learning here! Any theory we do cover is purely to provide a working knowledge of the fundamental concepts as they apply to any given topic.
Events are open to the general public, families and team building events. We vet instructors to have proven background in their respective fields, as well as an understanding of adult learning concepts.
Formats are the half-day, full day, and complete weekends. As curriculum and need dictates, formats will likely evolve over time.
We can also provide all our training 1-on-1 upon request, please contact us for more information!
Our locations
Off-Grid School is anywhere off the grid! However, we operate principally in the Ottawa and surrounding National Capital Region. Our survival training primarily occurs on private land near Mayo, Quebec, while we hold firearms training either at Stittsville Shooting Ranges or on Crown land. If you wish to book Off-Grid School for an event near you, please feel free to contact us!
Our founder
Claude has decades of experience living in off-grid environments, from living out of his backpack for weeks at a time, to camping trailers, to living in a dry (no running water) off-grid cabin, to operating out of his vehicle. He brings his military training and experience to the table, as well as his many years of designing and building simple small scale off-grid solar systems. He is a firm believer in hands-on training with small class sizes as a means to provide a rich and lasting learning experience for students. An avid fisherman, hunter, marksman and tinkerer, his drive to self-sufficiency is the motivating force behind Off-Grid School.
He volunteers for Project Mapleseed, a program he fully supports and endorses. His vision is to bring together many subject matter experts under a single platform to give people a place where they can learn to survive and thrive, no matter where they are.
