Rifle Fundamentals

Course Description: In this introductory course, students will learn to safely manipulate and shoot a rifle, as well as apply the fundamentals of marksmanship using just a sling in four positions: prone, standing, kneeling, and sitting. The recommended calibre for this course is a .22LR, though learners are welcome to come with any calibre they want to become proficient with.
(Please note: only a sling will be used in this course. Bipods, monopods and tripods are covered in Advanced Rifle)
Learning Outcomes: By completing this course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate safe handling of the rifle during a course of fire
- Adopt a standard position (prone, standing, kneeling and sitting) to deliver accurate fire upon a target
- Deliver accurate fire under time pressure and magazine capacity constraints

For the frugal, a completely similar experience including the possibility to earn the much coveted Rifleman badge can be had by signing up for a local Project Mapleseed event. Mapleseed events feature class sizes up to 12 learners in a highly structured event that will provide a complete experience for a lesser cost in a larger group setting.
Our founder, who earned his Rifleman badge twice using this program, is one of the Mapleseed Founders and a big supporter of the program. Please consider attending a Mapleseed if you are able to; friendly to women and junior shooters, it has our full support. However, if larger class sizes are not your thing, or if you already attended a Mapleseed and feel you need more time and individual coaching prior to reattempting, this is the course for you!
