Advanced Rifle
Course Description: In this more advanced course, students will learn to apply the fundamentals of marksmanship to a wider variety of scenarios and include bipods, tripods and other improvised techniques. They will also learn to understand ballistics and apply bullet drop to their rifle scope usage.
This course will also prepare students for Outlaw Rimfire Precisions Series (ORPS), Canadian Rimfire Precision Series (CRPS) and Precision Rifle Series (PRS) events.
Learning Outcomes: By completing this course, students will be able to:
- Use a bipod and tripod in various situations
- Use a variety of bags and improvised supports
- Adopt improvised shooting positions based on scenarios and available equipment, or lack thereof.
- Work around obstacles and constraints to solve a shooting challenge (ex. Barricades, difficult angles, oddly shaped surfaces, unstable support, etc.)
- Understand ballistics as they apply to bullet drop and rifle scope usage. (Your ability to apply these elements will depend on your particular sighting system, whether irons or optics)
Target audiences
- PAL holders with an unrestricted rifle, students holding a Mapleseed badge or who have attended and passed Rifle Fundamentals.
Requirements
- A valid PAL (Possession and Acquisition License).
- Your rifle, with approximately 400 rounds of ammunition and at least 1 magazine (more than 1 magazine is recommended, two to four is ideal). One can never have too many magazines. However one can easily lack the capacity to store and transport them with the required care and attention if one has too many on hand!
- Eye and ear protection.
- Basic hand-eye coordination.
- A learning attitude.
- Your lunch and drinks for the day. Zero tolerance for drugs or alcohol on premises or during firearm handling.
- Recommended: A bipod, shooting bag.
- Weather-appropriate clothing.
- Summertime: bug repellent of your choice
